-The goal of this study was to identify strategies for employing plants to remove heavy metals and chemical pollutants from bodies of water. Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin were the chemical medications we wanted the plants to remove from the water, and we utilized Leucocephala plants as the ones in charge of phytoremediation. The plants' functionality remained excellent after employing Cyclic Voltametry, showing they would be a viable choice for usage in bodies of water that contain pharmaceutical contaminants. Apart from the research per se, i was in charge of carrying out different tasks such as Washing treatment, Plant Growth, Cyclic Voltametry amongst other novel assignments.
-In this research i was tasked to be in charge of the chemistry logistics in a self sustaining Mariculture project. The focus of the research was to efficiently create a system which would need little to no outside sources of chemicals in order to filter the tanks. The model consisted of various tanks which had different sea animals which filtrated specific chemicals for example: sea urchins and algae filtering fish waste. I was assigned to improve and help create the model taking chemical laws into consideration. Apart from these tasks i also had the opportunity to travel everyday in a ferry in order to arrive to the facilities which is in an island that belongs to the university in La Parguera.
-I've had the opportunity to attend instructive workshops, guest lectures, and networking events through this organization, which has broadened my expertise and understanding of the medical sector. One of the most beneficial components of being a part of our organization is the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. From volunteering at local hospitals and clinics to organizing health fairs and community outreach programs, I've had the opportunity to put my knowledge and abilities to use.
-A variety of health professionals, including doctors, PhD health professors, and medical students, discussed the reality, challenges, advantages, etc. of the health field over the course of two full days (March 4 and 5).
-I provided assistance with other students at Hogar Casa Linda, a senior residence in Mayaguez. Each student was paired with a seniorcitizen as part of the community service project, and entertaining activities like arts and crafts, amusing chats, and showing care.
-This community service involved helping low-income areas with free COVID-19 testing. I was given a job involving swab testing and patient evaluation forms, giving me first-hand experience working with the patients there. This event changed my view on the state of the communities on my Island and helped me reach out to those in need.
-In this experience i had the opportunity to learn various subjects and aspects of the field regarding Pediatric Orthopedics. I learned key elements of anatomy using various tecniques of imaging such as X-ray/MRI/CT, to physical exams performed before the reading of any type of test results. Various Surgeries were performed by the Dr. Ramirez and I learned many new components of how surgery is performed and the relationship between surgeons, anesthesiologist, and assistants. Dr. Norman Ramirez Lluch has a very dynamic approach to this field and showed me many aspects of the true side of medicine and how we as students should pursue this field with an honest and integral posture.
-In this experience i had the privilege to do a fine needle aspiration shadowing in the metropolitan hospital in Guaynabo. This was an exciting opportunity because of the exposure given in the room with the doctor. I was observing how he carefully made the aspiration and how the slit was prepared and read in a 3 min window.
-I was paired up with Dr. Luis Lozada, a specialist in anatomic and clinical pathology, for this shadowing experience. We screened the pathological specimens using lab slits, and I learned how to distinguish between benign and malignant cell types. I was given varied assignments in areas like liquid sample production, translation, and anatomical grossing. Due to my exposure in the laboratory and the fact that Dr. Lozada handles more than 30 cases a day, this shadowing was very valuable.
