I have 19 years of experience in the Citotechnology field. I made a bachelor degree in Microbiologist and later graduated from The University of Puerto Rico Medical Science campus with a certification in citotechnologist and a master degree in Public health. After graduation I worked in a pathology laboratory named HRP labs until 2018 when I moved out of the country. My job consisted in processing and diagnosing of body samples under a microscope to give cancer and disease diagnosis to patients. I worked on site doing biopsies with pathologists in many hospitals around Puerto Rico like Ashford Hospital, Ryder, Hima Caguas among many others. I also had the role to train and evaluate students in this field as a learning center.

  • My job consisted in receiving a sample from patients like cervicovaginal smears, urines, non genital fluids, Fine needle aspiration techniques,biopsies among other human samples. I processed them in the lab with stains and specialized instruments and later evaluate those samples in a slide under a microscope to give a diagnosis so the patient could received a medical treatment. I studied the sample carefully and determined if it is positive to cancer, or disease, what type of cancer or if it is benign. Later a pathologist approved the diagnosis and send the results to the patients, doctors and hospitals to receive medical treatment.
  • Also, I performed regular on site biopsies with sonography guidance, and give a preliminary diagnosis of the samples. As a teaching center I provided education, guidance and evaluation of the citotechnology students on this program.
