Accomplishments

  • Research, Research in molecular and analytic biology. Exposed a group of fish to heavy metal Cadmium to study how specific proteins can indicate the presence of this metal. Dissected various fish exposed and not exposed to the heavy metal to later extract proteins from different tissues like the brain, muscle and liver. Using the ELISA and SDS page protocol, it was determined that the protein metallothioneine was an indicator of the metal exposure.
  • Demonstrations, Participation in open house from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, conducting various demonstrations of different scientific experiments to high school students.
