Clinical Experience and Shadowing

  • 75 hours patient contact hours: As part of the "Ángel Azul" project I was able to volunteer in multiple areas of the Mennonite hospital in Cayey. These experiences included taking vitals in both the pediatric and adult Emergency Room, providing assistance with the care of patients in the Surgical and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, helping the nurses in preparation for interventional cardiology procedures and aiding the surgeons during multiple Obstetrics and Gynecology surgeries.


  • 8 hours of shadowing a Nuclear Medicine specialist, Dr. Sandra Gracia.


  • 25 hours of shadowing Dr. Jaime Díaz, anesthesiologist.

Research Experience

  • 2023-present: Researcher in the SEAPHAGES project with the goal of finding, purifying and characterizing novel bacteriophages in local dirt.
  • 20-April-2024: SEAPHAGES poster to be presented at the 42nd Puerto Rico Interdisciplinary Scientific Meeting (PRISM) & 57th ACS Junior Technical Meeting.
  • May-2024: Project Manos de Esperanza-Ángel Azul is a community volunteering based research initiative that will be presented at a school wide symposium in UPR Cayey.
