Shadowing experience:

• Shadowed with Dr. Ileana Hernandez (Pharmd). I shadow Dr. Hernández in Pavia Santurce hospital pharmacy, which provided me with a comprehensive view of the vital role pharmacists play in patient care. During my time there, I observed the critical process of prescription verification. One notable instance involved a discussion regarding an elderly patient prescribed an excessive dosage, prompting Dr. Hernández to consult the attending physician to ensure patient safety. I also learned about the BD Pyxis system, which streamlines medication dispensing and enhances inventory management within the hospital. Observing the meticulous handling of medication storage further underscored the responsibility pharmacists have in safeguarding patient health.
• Shadowed with Dr. Megan Larison (Pharmd). Participated in virtual shadowing with Dr. Larison, gaining insights into pharmacy career opportunities, the importance of networking, and the role of Regulatory Affairs. Learned about the structure of residency programs and the challenges faced in the first year of pharmacy school.
• Shadowed with Dr. Hakim Bouzamondo (MD, MSc, MBA). Participated in virtual shadowing with Dr. Bouzamondo, Divisional VP at Abbott Nutrition, focusing on nutrition product development and clinical research. Gained insights into his emphasis on brain health, gut health, and metabolism, as well as his motivation for entering pharmaceuticals following a patient’s passing during medical studies.
• Shadowed with Sierra Richard (Pharmd). I had the opportunity to engage in virtual shadowing with Dr. Sierra Richard, a women’s health and pediatric clinical pharmacist. I gained insights into the roles of pharmacists in verifying medication orders, reviewing women’s health charts, and the educational path for a pharmacy career.

Community Experience:

• Volunteer at beach cleanup with Doce25PR.
• Volunteer Staff at Casa Ronald McDonald ABC, Make breakfast for guests without a place to stay whose family members have been hospitalized far from home.
• Volunteer at Centro de Aprendizaje del Niño. Development of academic, social, behavioral and communication skills for children from 2 to 5 years old.
• Volunteer at Proyecto Alegria. Pack boxes with personal care products to give as gifts.
• Volunteer with Golitos, where provided support to carry out physical activities to develop motor skills in children.
• Awarded fifteen community service hour for contributing towards empowering future healthcare professionals in Puerto Rico trough "Bata con propósito".
