I am a undergraduate student in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, currently completing my bachelor's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I have great passion, determination and commitment that has distinguished the different stages of my personal and scientific development. I am secretary of the students organization Women in Natural Sciences (WINS), an organization focused on women empowerment. Furthermore, I have volunteered in the Ricky Martin Foundation (TAU), Un rayito de Sol en tu habitación, Clearwaters, among many others organizations. This experiences, along with my desire to impact the lives of those around me, has motivated me to aspire a medical base career.

  • This experience has been very helpful in improving my leadership, organization and time management skills.
  • It also has provided me with the opportunity to mature and grow in both, a personal and professional manner.
  • Some of my formal duties as secretary are: monitoring the list of active members, making activity assistance forms, sending emails reminding weekly activities to the members and lastly, keeping a written record of what happens at board meetings.

  • During June of 2021, I had the honor of shadowing with renowned obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Hiram Malaret González.
  • I witnessed various procedures, including pellets, VPH examination, colposcopies, cervical biopsies, endovaginal ultrasounds, among many others.
  • While performing each one, the doctor never failed to explain in detail what he was doing and its purpose.
  • Recieved advice as a future health care professional.

Plastic Surgery Clinical Observer

  • During March of 2021, I had the opportunity of shadowing Dr. Francisco Pérez Rivera, a renowned cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery specialist.
  • I had the chance to join in on his consultations and operations at the HIMA San Pablo Hospital in Caguas.
  • Among the surgeries that I observed, there was an abdominoplasty, a breast reduction, and a breast augmentation.
  • I also learned about the correct doctor-patient relationship that is required to promote a comfortable clinical setting.
